#### ENGRMAE 80 Dynamics

**ENGRMAE 80 Dynamics (Credit Units: 4)** Introduction to the kinetics and dynamics of particles and rigid bodies. The Newton-Euler, Work/Energy, and Impulse/Momentum methods are explored for ascertaining the dynamics of particles and rigid bodies. An engineering design problem using these fundamental principles is also undertaken. Prerequisite: MATH 2D and Physics 7C . School of Engineering majors have first consideration for enrollment. Same as ENGR 80 and ENGRCEE 80. (Design units: 0.5)

Hibbeler, R.C., Engineering Mechanics: Dynamics, Prentice Hall.

Introductory concept from freshman physics: force, motion, mechanics, as well as elementary concepts from calculus: differentiation, the chair rule, etc. Introductory level statics: force balance, center of gravity, and the concept of equilibrium.

- Kinetics and kinematics of particles (Newton’s law, work-energy method, impulse momentum, etc):
- Systems of particles
- Kinetics and Kinematics of rigid bodies (Transverse and rotational motions, energy techniques, impulse momentum)

Meets for 3 hours of lecture and 1 hour of discussion each week for 10 weeks.

Minimal. The small orbital mechanics project requires a modest amount of calculations, any CAD program (even Excel) would suffice. Furthermore class management relies heavily on email, class web page and similar activities.

There are two paper/simulation design projects.

Contributes toward the Mechanical Engineering Topics courses and Major design experience. Contributes toward the Aerospace Engineering Topics courses and Major design experience.

Design is based on two lectures and an individual based paper design project. This individual project has strict time and page limits.
