Class Schedule:

Meets for 3 hours of lecture and 1 hour of discussion each week for 10 weeks.

Computer Usage:

Students will use the National Computer Biotechnology database to identify relevant molecular sequences, design primers and probes, locate matches for DNA using BLAST or related software, and build phylogenetic trees.

Students maintain their data on the website Workbench which is maintained by San Diego Super Computer. Using this website students can perform a number of manipulations with nucleic acids to identify micro-organisms, check similarity among sequences provided by the instructor.
