ENGRCEE 181C Senior Design Practicum (Credit Units: 2) Team designs land development project including infrastructural, environmental, circulation aspects. Focus on traffic impact studies, design of roads, geometry, signals, geotechnical and hydrological analysis, design of structural elements, economic analysis. Oral/Written interim and final design reports. Laboratory sessions. Prerequisite: CEE181B. ENGRCEE 181A-B-C must be taken in the same academic year. Civil Engineering and Environmental Engineering majors only. (Design units: 2)

Course Learning Outcomes. Students will:

1. Design a transportation, structural, water or wastewater system, component or process to meet desired needs.

2. Function as part of a civil and environmental engineering design team, including contributing to the integration of all design elements into a cohesive whole that is summarized in a professional-standard design report.

3. Apply ethical, societal, legal and contractual details in a civil and environmental engineering project. (EAC c)

4. Effectively communicate and present his/her design to a technical audience.

Prerequisites by Topic

Basic site development process (planning, scheduling, EIR, etc.)

Lecture Topics:

CEE 181C is a laboratory course with discussion and lectures as needed.

Class Schedule:

Meets for 1.5 hours of lecture, 1 hour of discussion and 1.5 hours of laboratory each week for 10 weeks.

Computer Usage:

Use of AutoCAD, GIS, MS-schedule and various other software for planning, design and economic analysis.

Laboratory Projects:

In weekly lab sessions, students continue meeting with both their consulting team (typically each consulting team incorporates five individual design projects as well as overall site development) and with members of other teams who are working on the same individual design project (and with the external client/consultant for each individual design project). Final designs are complete via iteration with client/consultants. Final site develop report incorporating each individual design project and a formal team presentation are required.

Professional Component

Contributes toward the Civil Engineering Topics courses and Major design experience; and the Environmental Engineering Topics courses and Major design experience.

Design Content Description

Comprehensive land development and design continues with completion of the design and analysis of individual project elements and the integrated final design of the project as a whole, including final project design report and team presentation.
