**EECS 180C Engineering Electromagnetics III (Credit Units: 4)** Propagation in anisotropic media. Propagation in ferrites and non-reciprocal devices. Scattering and dispersion. Electromagnetic properties of materials. Scattering of small nanoparticles. Spherical waves. Cross section of large and small objects. Radar equation. Coherent and incoherent radiation. Prerequisite: EECS180B. Electrical Engineering majors have first consideration for enrollment. (Design units: 0)

1. Understand electromagnetic propagation in anisotropic and non-reciprocal materials like crystals and ferrites and corresponding devices. (EAC a)

2. Learn the basic nature of electromagnetic properties of materials and how to include them into analyses. (EAC e)

3. Learn the basic concepts of dispersion and scattering and use spherical waves. (EAC a)

4. Understand electromagnetics of small particles and their effect in natural and engineering problems. (EAC e)

5. Understand the basic concept of the radar equation and radar principle of operation. (EAC e)

6. Understand concepts of coherent and incoherent radiation. (EAC a)

Understanding of Maxwell’s equations applied to static electric and magnetic fields. Understanding of Maxwell’s equations in the frequency and time domains. Understanding of basic wave propagation and radiation.

Meets for 3 hours of lecture and 1 hour of discussion each week for 10 weeks.
