EECS 159CW SENIOR DESIGN PROJECT III (Credit Units: 3) Completion, documentation, and presentation of projects in EECS 159A-B. Teaches engineering documentation and presentation skills. Students write comprehensive project reports individually and participate in a presentation of project results. Prerequisite: EECS 159A and EECS 159B or CSE 181A and CSE 181B and satisfactory completion of Lower-Division Witing requirement. Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering and Computer Science and Engineering majors have first consideration for enrollment. EECS 159 A-B-CW/CSE 181A-B-CW must be taken in the same academic year. Only one course from EECS 159CW, ENGR 190W may be taken for credit. (Design units: 0)

Course Learning Outcomes. Students will:

Importance of effective communication skills; technical writing in the workplace; benefits and drawbacks of visual and verbal modalities; sender/receiver relationships and the technical writing process model; legal and ethical responsibilities in engineering; form and organization of procedures used in scientific writing for the laboratory; ethical reporting of research findings using the scientific method; types of readers and determining the purpose of a technical document; limited the scope and planning the proper tone for a technical document; requirements for journal article review and presentation; common errors that can degrade the effectiveness of written documentation; non-linear organizational techniques for constructing a research paper outline; requirements for journal article review and presentation; evaluating your sources for usefulness and credibility; ethical use of source material in your research papers' parallel construction and sentence logic to attain clear writing; stylistic considerations in technical writing; methodologies for effectively reviewing and editing your document; readability analysis and for index techniques; effective cover letters/resumes; interviewing preparation/strategies and techniques; basic guidelines of copyright; trademark; patent laws.
