EECS 12 Introduction to Programming (Credit Units: 4) An introduction to computers and programming. Python programming syntax/style, types. Numbers and sequences. Control flow. I/O and errors/exceptions. Function calling, parameter passing, formal arguments, return values. Variable scoping. Programming laboratory. Corequisite: Mathematics 2A. School of Engineering majors have first consideration for enrollment. . Only one course from EECS 12, EECS 10, ENGRMAE 10, ENGR 10 may be taken for credit. (Design units: 0)

Course Learning Outcomes. Students will:

1. Express data of multiple types (numbers, strings, lists) in Python syntax. (EAC e, EAC k)

2. Write expressions and functions as Python statements. (EAC a, EAC b, EAC k)

3. Use control flow constructs to combine multiple statements into a larger subprogram. (EAC a, EAC b, EAC e, EAC k)

4. Test and debug programs with I/O constructs. (EAC k)

Laboratory Projects:

The class will write programs to perform the basic functionalities of some web servers, simple computer game with web user interfaces.
