Design Content Description
Approach:

CBEMS 190 will complement the senior design experience for our students. The goals of the senior design experience are the application of materials science and engineering fundamentals, advances, and analysis in design projects. These projects deal with materials selection in engineering design that involves several criteria. CBEMS 190 will address these many criteria: ethics, safety, design, failure modes, new products, and new patents as well as constraints dealing with reliability and economics. The lecture portion of CBEMS 190 also complements will be organized to address technical report writing, statistical methods, engineering economics, and selected topics on today’s industrial materials and applications. Seminars by qualified materials scientists and engineers involved in designs and selections of materials from local industry will be arranged to provide students with an understanding of design related issues in industry and the role of materials selection in deciding design. Recent graduates will also be invited to relate their early engineering experiences and faculty members will be invited to discuss current research and development interests for potential student career paths.
