Meets for 3 hours of lecture each week for 10 weeks.

Professional Component

This coursed is designed to teach student about phase stability, solidification, diffusion and how this is related to materials fabrication and current materials research. Students in this class are expected to develop excellent scientific literature research skills by the end of the quarter. The students are also encouraged to learn to use the program Endnote, and to use it in their literature searching for the project paper. Part of this class will utilize problem based learning approaches, where a set of problems are assigned to groups of students who must work together cooperatively to solve problems.
