**BME 110A Biomechanics I (Credit Units: 4)** Introduction to statics. Rigid bodies, analysis of structures, forces in beams, moments of inertia. Prerequisite: Physics 7D, Physics 7LD, Physics 7E, BME 60C, Math 3A, and Math 3D. Biomedical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering: Premedical majors, and Material Science Engineering majors have first consideration for enrollment. BME 110A-BME 110B-BME 110C must be taken in the same academic year. . (Design units: 1)

Design problems are assigned to groups of students who describe the problem, state assumptions, and provide computer drawings either by CAD software or MS PowerPoint. The designs include a list of components from online catalogs or local businesses, a budget, drawings, detailed mathematical analysis of the problem and the design, as well as a strategy for testing the design.
